Senior Python Backend Developer

About the role

We are looking to recruit a talented and passionate Python backend developer with at least 4 years’ commercial experience. You will need to be interested in all things technology, have advanced python coding skills and experience with Linux.

You will have a strong understanding of software engineering, have strong programming skills and an understanding of automated testing including unit, integration and end-to-end testing. You will have ownership of the whole life-cycle of FeedStock’s product components, from developing new features, fixing bugs, deploying to cloud infrastructure, as well as maintaining the production systems.

You will report directly to the Head of Development, though we hope for you to retain relative autonomy regarding how to deliver to deadlines in line with the product and technology roadmaps.

We are looking for someone who has a team mentality and enjoys contributing in an enthusiastic way to the broader discussion about product strategy, to service delivery planning and to mentoring junior developers.

What you will be doing:

  • Write clear, efficient, tested code
  • Working with the team to ensure system reliability, performance and uptime
  • Taking ownership of the technical architecture and solutions design
  • Maintain and develop ETL data pipelines to ensure usability and accuracy across the entire data infrastructure
  • Integrations into large enterprise IT systems
  • Troubleshoot system issues
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal DevOps tools
  • Build RESTful and GraphQL APIs
  • Learn and use the latest technologies as part of a talented, motivated team
  • Work with the data science team to deliver and optimise AI models

What we are looking for:

  • Exceptional Python coding skills
  • 4+ years’ commercial experience writing Python, with 2+ years’ at a start-up a bonus
  • Experience with production environment deployments on AWS public cloud systems
  • Strong experience with relational databases
  • Understanding of Kubernetes
  • Confidence in operating with Linux instances (Ubuntu Server, RedHat) and Docker
  • Enthusiasm and good collaboration
  • Pro-active and self-motivated
  • Interest in new technologies demonstrated through conference attendance and contribution to open source is a plus

Senior Data Scientist (Product)

About the role

This is a really exciting role to redefine, develop and own the Data function in a fast-paced, data-oriented start-up going through a rapid period of scaling, scaling from 1 – 10 – 50 clients across numerous industries

  • Your primary focus for the 1st six months (and beyond) will be to bring a strong, holistic, detailed data-focussed lens to the Synapse suite of products, which are going through rapid expansion; both from the breadth and depth of their users, and the enterprises which are using them.
  • You will be able to own and shape how we interact and make the best use of data across our wider product suite; and help define the USP product features through which the company will be able to further differentiate itself going forward.
  • You will also be line managing a brilliant, keen junior data scientist, and have the opportunity to recruit and grow your own data team and grow into a leadership position.

  • Applying your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and advanced analytics to shape the long-term direction of the product 
  • Contributing to building insights from large scale structured and unstructured data for a new data analytics platform

  • Working closely with product, design and engineering teams to identify trends and opportunities, developing flows for complex problem spaces

About you:

  • Experienced in advanced data analytics and comfortable working under high level product requirements 
  • Proven track record of building data solutions and components for analytics platforms and delivering commercial value 
  • Good communication skills to explain complex concepts in simple, intuitive ways; a data storyteller
  • Great problem-solving ability and results driven focus, moving fast from concepts to prototypes and production, quickly and pragmatically 
  • Able to handle multiple workstreams and can plan for self, function and team accordingly
  • Enjoys thinking big-picture as well as detail-oriented
  • Passionate about data science technology and building data-driven solutions 
  • Great learning ability and attitude to learn and implement new technologies 

Requirements:

  • Degree in a quantitative field, e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, etc. 
  • Experience applying your skillset within a commercial environment for 3/4+ years, and have worked directly with product and customers/ customerfacing teams.
  • Proficient in advanced data analytics, statistical analysis, data modelling, data mining, predictive modelling and data visualisation. 
  • Proficient with data wrangling toolkits and libraries, such as Jupyter Notebook, Pandas, NumPy, spaCy, etc. 
  • Proficient with SQL and Python, or at least one of following programming languages, such as R, C++, Go, Java, etc. 
  • Good knowledge/experience in natural language processing 
  • Knowledge in machine learning
  • Experience with working in a development environment, familiar with git, bash, AWS, etc. 

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment
